Practical information

Historic monument or place to visit in METZ, on the theme(s) Sacred art, awarded with the Label Listed historic monument (MH).
The former Benedictine abbey of Saint-Vincent was founded in the 10th century. Rebuilt from 1248 and consecrated in 1376, it is a superb example of Gothic architecture. The façade was rebuilt between 1768 and 1786 in a neoclassical style, modelled on the church of Saint-Gervais in Paris. After the French Revolution, which marked the end of the abbey, the church became a parish church, then a basilica in 1933. The Saint-Vincent basilica has been desacralized since 2012.
