Ingres' Turkish Bath combines the sexualization of the female body with a fantasy of the elsewhere that would make such a representation possible: this painting has thus given rise to a rich iconography.
Following in the footsteps of artist Sylvia Sleigh, Madeleine Roger-Lacan takes up the entire architecture of the work, but replaces the eroticized women with hypersexualized, passive men, showing how the framework of the copy can offer the possibility of interpretation, even contradiction.
