Death conquered on Calvary, oratorio sung at the Most Holy Sepulchre in the Casarea Capella of the Most August Emperor Joseph I, on the evening of Good Friday 1706. Set to music by Signor Marc'Antonio Ziani, Vice-Master of the Chapel of H.M.C. Vienna, Austria. This oratorio, a jewel of the genre, performed at the Vienna Hofkapelle, describes the oratorical joust between the Devil, who caused original sin and rejoices in the death of Christ, and Death itself, which in turn takes credit for the death of the Redeemer, who boasted, according to the oratorio's argument, that he was "life itself". A totally unknown and brilliant work.
