On site, you will find the trail under the following name: LE ZETTINGERWALD
Walk, breathe, and enjoy the benefits of the trees on this walk entirely within the 140-hectare Zetting Forest (Zettingerwald).
The starting point of your journey is opposite the new cemetery of Zetting. Move at your own pace to enjoy the entire ecosystem. From the very first steps, you are surrounded by the tranquility of the forest and can admire several centuries-old oaks, “kings of the forest”, beeches, hornbeams, and Scots pines. A small stream, the Goldbach, has its source in this forest. The name of this stream raises questions. Was the riverbed lined with mica flakes, or did someone once find a treasure in this stream? Along the path, several benches invite you to recover among these trees and enjoy a breathtaking view of the rolling landscape.
This easy-level tour is ideal for a family outing. Away from traffic, it offers a peaceful environment with the possibility of making pleasant breaks in the heart of nature. At the end of the route, you can extend your walk to the village center. There you will find the church of St. Marcel, a true historical monument known for its 11th-century tower, nave, Gothic choir, and stained glass windows.
Outside, you will see a small charming cobblestone street. For children, a playground and a pétanque court are available a few meters away.
For those seeking a challenge, the hike can be extended with “The Langenberg” circuit (Le Langenberg), offering more elevation on the other side of the Saar River, taking a picturesque 1.2 km link through the village of Zetting.
The two loops partially border the "Boundary Stone Tour" (Circuit des Bornes - 14.4 km). In the 18th century, 81 boundary stones engraved with a large Z representing a wolf trap, a symbol of the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken, marked the perimeter of the Zetting communal area. Some of these stones are still visible today, along the small paths or sheltered under a tree.
- Alternative route: the route can be complemented by "The Langenberg" (Le Langenberg - 5.1 km).
- Connection: between the two loops, a 1.2 km connection passing through the village of Zetting (St. Marcel Church with its 11th-century tower, nave, and Gothic choir, Renaissance frescoes, and stained glass windows). Two additional connections link "The Zettingerwald" (Le Zettingerwald) to two other trails: one of 1.3 km to the trail “On the Trails of the Spiritans” (Sur les traces des Spiritains - 11.2 km) and another of 1.4 km to the “Wash house trail” (Circuit du Lavoir - 12.6 km).
- Trail-Marking: blue ring
- Geographical area: The Saar Valley, lovely detours through rivers and forests
- Starting point: Zetting > rue de l'Église - Cemetery
