After performing many of the shows that have shaped the history of Le Carreau over the past thirty years, Wim Vandekeybus—a leading choreographer on the Belgian and international scenes—returns to present *Void*, his latest production. With a desire he likes to describe as “smaller,” he views this work as equally valuable in his creative journey. Against a minimalist set design, six performers embody characters who are considered outsiders or on the margins of society. On stage, each in their own bubble—a reference to the piece’s English title—they cross paths, confront one another, and coexist. Through dance, they recount their unique journeys and summon a fascinating force to chart their extraordinary paths. The intensity of the movements and expressions pits energy and risk against instinct and impulse. Set to jazz and percussive music, punctuated by deafening silences, we explore the inner worlds of these diverse figures. An evening that celebrates the richness of individuality, presented by an artist who embraces the moments when catastrophe strikes, to better capture our emotions.
