Théâtre : Un Sacre

To create *Un Sacre*, author Guillaume Poix and director Lorraine de Sagazan set out to meet with people in order to break the isolation into which we had been forced by the 2020 pandemic. They spoke with and exchanged stories with more than three hundred people over the course of six months. At a time when mourning was deprived of ceremony, they realized that in almost every story shared with them, there was the presence of a deceased person. Drawing on a selection of these stories, Lorraine de Sagazan has created a play that is funny, powerful, and deeply moving. The nine actors and actresses, with their extraordinary stage presence and commitment, invent an intense and cathartic theatrical ritual that draws the audience in. They create a space that connects the living to their dead, through words and gestures, all without pathos. Set in a vast, abandoned theater that nature is gradually revitalizing with colorful vegetation, the actors perform a lyrical and burlesque ceremony—at the intersection of reality and fiction—through voice, tears, and dance. And that is precisely Lorraine de Sagazan’s masterstroke with this intensely vivid production: touching us right in the heart and transforming grief into a path toward an inner peace filled with joy. For the first time at Le Carreau, as the opening event of the Festival Primeurs, come discover one of the most prominent French playwrights and directors of the moment.
