Spectacle de danse : Badke (Remix)

The dabké, a folk dance from the Levant performed at festivals and weddings and listed as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, has been passed down from generation to generation. This served as the starting point in 2013 for Koen Augustijnen, Rosalba Torres, and Hildegard De Vuyst, who created *Badke* for Les ballets C de la B. This production, featuring an all-Palestinian cast, went on to enjoy success around the world during a three-year tour. Also Palestinian, choreographers Amir Sabra and Ata Khatab are now taking on the tradition with a new generation of artists for a remix brimming with tremendous collective energy. They transform the dabké into a true playground. The performers blend contemporary dance, hip-hop, capoeira, and even circus arts to bring forth a vibrant, contemporary take on this tradition, set to the sound of the mijwiz—a bamboo wind instrument with a mesmerizing and explosive melody. On stage, the pulsing energy of the bodies and the collective momentum sweep everything along: stomping feet, leaps, and flowing lines form a community in motion. At the intersection of heritage and creativity, *Badke (remix)* celebrates the joy of life and the desire to dance as a form of resistance.
