In early December, the City of Metz invites you to celebrate Saint Nicholas Day, a warm and festive occasion for the whole family. This year, Sunday’s parade will introduce you to the art of puppetry from around the world for a moment of magic and togetherness. Starting Saturday afternoon, the Esplanade comes to life: Saint Nicholas’s little house appears, inviting children to drop their notes and drawings into his mailbox. At the Arsenal Jean-Marie Rausch, Saint Nicholas and Père Fouettard can’t wait to meet them and take photos with them.
On Sunday, the festivities continue, and the traditional Saint Nicholas parade comes to life in the downtown streets, featuring decorated floats and performances inspired by the art of puppetry from around the world. Volunteers from the associations La Commune Libre de Magny, Fédération Familles de France 57, Les Gwendolines, Groupe Folklorique Lorrain de Metz, Renaissance de Metz-Devant-les-Ponts, the ELU / Global Ukraine association, and Secours Catholique enthusiastically help create the decorations that accompany Saint Nicholas and Père Fouettard in the parade. Because the magic of Saint Nicholas Day should be shared by everyone, every detail is carefully planned so that everyone can enjoy it to the fullest. The main venues are accessible to all, and specially adapted spaces allow everyone to experience this celebration in a cheerful atmosphere.
In Metz, Saint Nicholas Day is a celebration where camaraderie and magic come together. A varied program—featuring performances, musical entertainment, and artistic street performances—appeals to both Metz residents and visitors from afar.
