Haydn’s *The Seven Last Words of Christ*: seven deeply moving adagios, commissioned by the Church of Santa Cueva in Cádiz, reflecting on the words of Christ on the cross (“Father, forgive them,” “My God, why have you forsaken me?”).
Composed in 1786, this instrumental version culminates in a musical earthquake of universal power. Performed by the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie under the direction of Josep Pons, the work takes on a new dimension: between each movement, Martina Gedeck reads the words of Christ, enriched with multiconfessional commentary (Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, atheists...). A reflection that is both intimate and universal, where music and words transcend the boundaries of faith.
