A new production by the CCN-Ballet de Lorraine, this *Concerto danzante* traces the history of the concerto—from Vivaldi to Bach—with the vibrant energy of contemporary dance and a large Baroque ensemble: Les Arts Florissants.
Maud Le Pladec invites Josépha Madoki, a leading French figure in waacking—a dance style that originated in the clubs of the Afro-Latin gay and lesbian community in the 1970s—to open the show with “Garbo.” Her entire dance vocabulary, which emphasizes arm and torso movements, perfectly complements Vivaldi’s boldness. Then the new artistic director creates *Ad Vitam aeternam*, drawing on the formal rigor of the Leipzig Cantor, whose mathematical and poetic compositions engage in a virtuoso dialogue with the dancers’ bodies. Here, the movement brings the musical texture and its dynamics to life in an… epic dialogue!
