What is a Kino? Kino is an international movement founded in 1999 in Quebec. Participants—known as “Kinoïtes”—gather at Kino kabarets to create short films within a tight timeframe ranging from one week to 24 hours, but without any restrictions or competition.
Who is it for? Everyone! Professionals and amateurs, beginners and experienced filmmakers, artists and talents of all kinds! When you register, you’ll have two options: submit a project or join one or more teams per session. Unlike a traditional 48-hour film challenge, teams are formed at the start of the event, not beforehand.
Can you be on multiple teams? Absolutely! Are you a makeup artist and actor? Or maybe a camera operator and stunt performer? If one team no longer needs your skills, offer them to another team and become a true Kinoite!
1. Production meeting: All participants introduce themselves one by one. Then, the project leaders present their idea or screenplay. Teams are formed right on the spot.
2. Let the filming begin! All weekend long. Just like in a traditional 48-hour film challenge, you’ll write, shoot, and edit your film together. The difference is that, since this isn’t a competition, if you’ve finished your tasks for one team, you can join another team!
3. Screening: The films will be shown at a screening open to the public.
