Concert - Janua, échos du dernier Schisme, Ensemble Irini

The Irini Ensemble invites us to an extraordinary experience.

Guillaume Dufay’s motet *Nuper rosarum flores* is extremely rare, and yet what grandeur there is in this masterpiece, written to mark the completion of the famous dome of Florence Cathedral! With *Janua*, conductor Lila Hajosi brings together the two churches of the fifteenth century: on one side, the Catholic West, with its great Franco-Flemish polyphonies; on the other, the Orthodox East, with the long lines of Byzantine chant. By Manuel Doukas Chrysaphes, *O Theos, Ilthosan Ethni* is a sublime lament composed shortly after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in 1453. Two magnificent sonic worlds, two visions of the sacred, are brought together here as if by a hyphen. Irini’s nine-voice ensemble, accompanied by trumpets and sackbuts, creates an incomparably spellbinding atmosphere.
