What if lakes and rivers were home to a whole world of life—as unobtrusive as it is essential? The PokémEAU exhibition invites you to discover the often-overlooked inhabitants of the lakes and rivers of the Grand Est region.
Daphnia, diatoms, tardigrades, mayfly larvae… these unassuming organisms nevertheless play a vital role in the functioning of aquatic ecosystems. This 10-panel exhibition, inspired by the world of pixel art, blends science and imagination. Photographs, videos accessible via QR codes, and a scavenger hunt invite visitors of all ages to observe biodiversity in a new light.
So, will you be able to spot them all?
This exhibition, financially supported by the Grand Est Region and the Metz Euro-Metropolis, is the result of a collaboration between three partners: the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Continental Environments (LIEC), some of whose teams study freshwater and the organisms that inhabit it to better understand how these environments function, assess water quality, and evaluate the health of ecosystems; the science outreach company IWARI, which simplifies and gamifies scientific content to make it accessible to the general public; and photographer Jean-François CART, who took most of the photographs in the exhibition.
Jean-François CART turns his lens on little-known species that are often difficult to observe, in order to raise awareness about them, help document their distribution, and promote their conservation.
