Having lived in Brazil for more than ten years, Ludovic Carème retraced the journey of those he photographed in reverse.
He began by documenting the small Água Branca favela, right in the heart of São Paulo, and ended his journey in the Amazon—the very place from which those who dreamed of finding happiness in the megacity had set out, only to have their hopes dashed in other favelas.
He complements his work as a portraitist with views of the forest, as well as stark depictions of deforestation and small still lifes found in interiors.
