Following a debut album devoted to African-American spirituals, American countertenor Reginald Mobley turns his attention to the English repertoire in a simple arrangement featuring primarily voice, lute, and viola da gamba. *Solitude* opens with Henry Purcell’s moving “Tis Nature’s Voice,” drifts through the deeply melancholic currents of John Dowland, and continues its journey toward the American shores and contemporary composers Jonathan Woody and Douglas Balliett. Together with his collaborators Brandon Acker and Douglas Balliett, Reggie concludes this intimate journey with melodies arranged in the 19th century by the African American guitarist, composer, and abolitionist Justin Holland.
