At the end of this enriching experience, come and share a convivial moment over a drink and a snack!
- Lecture "Women and sexuality in Ancient Rome" by Virginie Girod (Sunday, 4pm).
In cooperation with the Société d'Histoire et d'Archéologie de la Lorraine.
Virginie Girod holds a doctorate in history and is a specialist in Roman antiquity. In peplums, Roman women are sensual, venomous creatures. These clichés are far from the truth. Roman society is all about order, and every member is expected to behave in a manner befitting his or her position. Free women were destined to be wives and mothers. Their sexuality was controlled. Other women, including prostitutes, are at the service of men, objects of pleasure and seminal drains. An in-depth study of ancient medical, legal and literary texts, as well as archaeological remains, reveals women subjected to a rigorous social order.
Transgressing the rules is never without danger, but it's always possible to play with them.
