It seems so commonplace that we tend to forget about it. The Saar River is a silent companion to our environment and our history. The river's banks are home to some very special landscapes. Not only does the Sarre generate a diversity of environments rich in biodiversity, it has also shaped the history of an entire territory. Its floods remind us that we're not much when it's angry, but we owe it everything: from its fragile natural environments to our socio-economic fabric, it is the backbone of a natural and cultural heritage that gives an entire territory its identity. In this lecture, you'll discover the Saarland from lesser-known angles. Its natural environments, its legends, the stories it has given rise to and other unusual aspects that add to its charm.
