Beasts & Witches – Dossier No. 02

The Creature Roaming the City

In Metz, some creatures hide right in the heart of the city: sometimes, all you have to do is look up to spot them.

With Beasts & Witches, the bestiary grows all the way to Amnéville and Walygator. The only question is which creature you will dare to approach.

Your bestiary begins in Metz

Look up, they are already there

No special effects are needed to find monsters in Metz. Some have been watching passers-by for centuries, perched on façades and monuments.

On 24 October, the family tour “Monsters and Gargoyles” invites children and adults to explore the city in search of the unusual. Fantastical sculptures, unsettling figures and legends all offer new ways to look at Metz. The one-hour tour is designed for children aged 6 to 12 accompanied by an adult.

A few days later, on 28 October, “Witches and Sinister Animals” takes families into a very different world. Magical plants, animals associated with bad omens and popular beliefs take centre stage.

Two complementary events: in the first, creatures hide in the stone; in the second, they slip into stories that have been told for generations.

Keep your eyes open

Which creature will be the hardest to spot along the way?

Don’t just look straight ahead. In Metz, some prefer to hide high above you.

In Amnéville, the creatures come to life

Meet the “Animals of Fear”

After the stone monsters of Metz, it is time for a change of scenery: here, the encounters are very real.

At Amnéville Zoo, wolves, reptiles, nocturnal birds of prey and hyenas are a reminder of how certain animals have inspired legends, fears and beliefs over the centuries. At Halloween, the zoo invites visitors to see these species in a different light – animals that fascinate just as much as they impress.

It is an opportunity to look beyond appearances, learn more about their behaviour and perhaps discover that the most frightening creature is not always the one you imagined.

It’s up to you

Which encounter will make you hesitate the most?

The stare of a wolf, the movement of a snake or the silence of a nocturnal bird of prey? Your answer may well change after your visit.

Some creatures prefer to stay beneath the surface

Here, no silhouettes loom from façades and no creatures roam through the woods. Instead, they swim silently behind the glass.

Sharks, piranhas, jellyfish and other inhabitants of the underwater world make up a very different bestiary from the creatures encountered so far. At Halloween, Amnéville Aquarium also offers special activities during the autumn half-term holidays.

Take your pick

Which one deserves a place in your bestiary?

Shark? Piranha? Jellyfish? Another unexpected species? You will have to choose once you are there!

Walygator

Maizières-lès-Metz | Walygator Grand Est

Until now, you have been watching them… Now step into their world

At Walygator, there is no need to look for creatures behind a fence or perched on top of a monument.

The park will be open during the autumn half-term holidays until 1 November 2026, and its website is already promoting its Halloween event, Walloween. The full programme for this edition has yet to be revealed.

But the setting is already perfect for continuing this dossier. The park is home to Terror House and an attraction with a particularly fitting name: The Monster.

At Halloween, decorations, attractions and entertainment traditionally transform Walygator into a playground for those who would rather face the monsters than simply watch them.

Time to choose

Terror House or The Monster?

A haunted house on one side. Thrills on the other. Nothing says you have to start with the easier option.
