It is one of the most famous duels in the history of music. In 1781, Mozart was triumphing at the Viennese court when a new rival emerged: Muzio Clementi. As a form of entertainment, Emperor Joseph II invited the two musicians to settle the matter during a concert featuring their own compositions. Unable to decide between them, the monarch declared both winners in a tie. At the helm of his Ensemble de L’Encyclopédie, pianist Florent Albrecht “replays the match” with two famous concertos by the Austrian composer and the only concertante work that has survived from his Italian counterpart. Virtuosity, joy, purity, and drama come together in a truly exceptional performance.
