Europe and Paris as Your Playground

Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg… That’s enough! Moselle is at the heart of Europe. Open to the world.

If you have ever dreamed of telling your friends, “I visited several foreign countries in the same day!”, then Moselle is made for you. Thanks to a dense and well-developed motorway network, these three neighbouring countries are less than an hour’s drive from the department’s capital, Metz, and all have airports offering a wide range of international destinations (from Luxembourg-Findel Airport to Saarbrücken-Ensheim Airport).

And the cherry on top (since it’s our golden fruit), if France really means a lot to you: Paris is just 1 hour 25 minutes from Metz by TGV. Perfect for a return trip within the same day! A recent survey by Le Parisien even named Metz as the number one city for remote working.

A Parisian Studio = A House in Moselle + a Garden

Here’s a fact that might just clear your mind: the garden you’ve been hoping to have one day is probably somewhere in Moselle.

Because for the price of a Parisian studio, you can invest here in a house with a garden. The figures are clear. The average price per square metre in Moselle (€1,755) is three times lower than in Île-de-France.

And when it comes to renting, the trend is similar: for a 50 m² apartment, the average monthly rent is €602 in Moselle, compared to €1,159 per month in Île-de-France.

You Have Local Rights...

Have you ever heard of local law?

This legal particularity applies to Moselle and comes with several benefits. Starting with two extra public holidays: Saint Stephen’s Day (26/12) and Good Friday.

Looking through the list of positive effects on your daily life, health insurance is more advantageous (with reimbursement rates of up to 90%, and a hospital charge fully covered). Salary is maintained in case of employee absence for reasons beyond their control, and this is without any waiting period. There’s also stronger protection for Sunday rest and public holidays for employees.

Lastly, notice periods for resignation and dismissal are specific to the territory where no collective agreements apply.

A Diverse and Authentic Heritage

The richness of Moselle’s heritage speaks for itself. Let’s take a quick tour of what it has to offer.

Throughout the region, you will find architectural testimonies from all eras, from Antiquity to the present day. First, there are the medieval castles (Malbrouck Castle in Manderen) and those from the 18th century (La Grange Castle in Manom, Preisch Castle).

We could also highlight the impressive Citadel of Bitche, the forts and main structures of the Maginot Line, the fortifications of Rodemack, the largest American cemetery in Europe at Saint Avold, the European Archaeological Park of Bliesbruck-Reinheim, and the Explor Wendel Park, a testament to Moselle’s coal golden age.

The department’s capital, Metz, will finally reveal all its charms with its Amphitheatre district, its architectural heritage from the German Empire (Metz Station is considered the most beautiful in France), its medieval Saint-Louis square, and of course its magnificent Saint Stephen’s Cathedral, with its stunning stained glass windows by Marc Chagall.

A good dose of culture, sport and events!

There’s always a good reason to celebrate in Moselle! And in every season.

In February, the Sarreguemines Carnival is in full swing, while in the heart of summer the Mirabelle Festival and the Constellations Festival in Metz always enjoy great popular success.

Culture shines in Moselle!

The Metz Opera-Theatre and the Metz Grand-Est National Orchestra, as well as the 8 Passionately Moselle sites, are among the main ambassadors.

And what about the sporting spirit of this department! You will find here a legendary football club (FC Metz), the best national women’s handball team (Metz Handball), an international ATP 250 tennis tournament (Moselle Open) and many other national and international references. All supported by hundreds of sports clubs dedicated to sport for all.

Never work on an empty stomach again

No need to introduce quiche lorraine since it is world-famous.

But we have our authentic recipe, truly our own, which we cherish deeply. We invite you to taste it! Along with a pâté lorrain on the side (because we’re generous!)

While these two specialties remain the most famous, Moselle also offers many high-quality agricultural and local products (certified under the Qualité MOSL label), including its AOC Moselle wines mostly grown in organic agriculture. Here, it’s all about short circuits, controlled, and local production.

Moreover, we are particularly proud of our starred and distinguished chefs (Michel Roth and Matthieu Otto, Bocuse d’Or winners, as well as Loïc Villemin, Michelin-starred chef and holder of a green star).

At your service… with quality!

The quality of life also depends on the range of services offered by our living territory. And let it be said, Moselle sets a standard on this point.

Regarding healthcare, the Regional Hospital Center Metz-Thionville – Mercy Hospital is the only facility in Northern Lorraine offering all medical specialties (except neurosurgery) and a complete technical platform on a single site.

Soon, a new private ELSAN hospital will open near Metz (Maizières-Lès-Metz). A futuristic facility with advanced technology.

Living (and working) in comfort also means benefiting from very high-speed internet. The entire territory is covered. It also means having access to a dense and complementary commercial network, one of the densest in France. For example, the large Actisud zone, which extends over three border municipalities of Metz, or the major shopping centers: B’Est in Eastern Moselle or Géric in Thionville.
