Conference organized by the Welferding Tree Growers' Association and hosted by Kristof Aderhold, Martine Feicht and Gilles Weiskircher.
Interactive photo lecture on a natural area shaped by human activity on the outskirts of town. Different ecosystems such as limestone pairies, country hedges and meadow orchards in various states are presented, with explanations about biodiversity in these places, maintenance and the different varieties of trees in the orchards. The history of meadow orchards as an ancient rural economic zone will also be discussed.
An overview of the different seasons in orchards and meadows and, as a bonus, a talk on the orchids found on our limestone meadows by Gilles Weiskircher.
The pre-orchard is a very old type of orchard. Sites once used for farming and self-supply (fields, orchards, pastures) are being transformed into meadows or scrubland. However, patches of orchard remain. Each of these three ecosystems contributes in its own way to biodiversity. Other plots have been converted to intensive agriculture.
Presentation of the site and its ecological value: fauna, flora, varieties of fruit trees, maintenance methods. Explanations and photos of the different seasons.
