By Michel Gauthier, exhibition curator and curator of contemporary collections, Centre Pompidou, Paris
In this lecture prefiguring the opening of the exhibition François Morellet. 100 pour cent on April 3, 2026, curator Michel Gauthier retraces the artist's singular career and develops the idea behind this major retrospective: Morellet is singular in that he is both the leading French exponent of geometric abstraction and its most decisive destabilizer. This lecture explores, through selected works, the ambivalence between reason and folly, between the legacy of Francis Picabia and that of Piet Mondrian, which the artist likes to invoke.
This lecture is free for Pass-M SOLO, Pass-M DUO and Pass-M Jeune members.
