Conférence - Louise Nevelson et les Moving-Static-Moving Figures

Un Dimanche, Une Oeuvre - Rendez-vous around major works in the exhibitions

By Hélène Marquié, Head of the Gender Studies Department at the University of Paris

Louise Nevelson's work does not spontaneously evoke dance. Yet... Hélène Marquié, professor at the University of Paris 8 and dance specialist, takes as her starting point these paradoxically titled sculptures, Moving-Static-Moving Figure, to shed light on the place of dance in the artist's universe and creative processes. A shared vision of their art and conception of creative energy, as well as convergent questioning, link Louise Nevelson to the great artists of choreographic modernity, Marie-Wigman in Germany, Isadora Duncan and above all Martha Graham in the United States. With them, Louise Nevelson was at the forefront of a modernity preoccupied with breaking down the frameworks and boundaries of different fields.
