By the middle of the 19th century, Sarreguemines had established its industrial vocation. The construction of the Pont Neuf, the arrival of the railroad and the canal des Houillères encouraged the development of factories. On this tour, you'll discover the remarkable architecture and the expansion of the town on the right bank from 1830 onwards. You'll discover the Claire Oster foundation, the Cazal and Beauregard mansions, the homes of entrepreneurs Gangloff and Siebler, and the infantry barracks converted by Mayor Henri Nominé with industrialist Schoettke. Along the way, you'll be able to compare the style of villas by Adolphe Meysembourg, Joseph Halb, Fred Dietsch and other builders. The highlight of the tour is the return via Square Wilson, Rue Roth and the analysis of the façade of the city's theater, built by architect Aloïs Berang in 1902. This period of rapid development will give you an insight into life and social relations in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
