Based in Metz, Les Curiosités esthétiques present Bach’s splendid Trio Sonatas, marvels of musical invention. Contrary to what their names might suggest, these works were originally conceived for two instruments: the viola da gamba and the harpsichord. This is the thrilling challenge that Vincent Bernhard, Jean-Pierre Pinet, and Vincent Roth (renowned musicians and educators) have set for themselves on their respective cello, flute, and pianoforte. In the 18th century, the practice of transcription was common, and far from being a betrayal, the exercise proves to be an act of freedom, curiosity, and passion. Thanks to these “Aesthetic Curiosities,” Bach reveals a newfound freshness and radiance.
