The Hanau lake is located in the heart of the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park and is popular both for its recreation space and its surrounding natural treasures. The 44 acres pond is topped by the ruins of the medieval Waldeck Castle. There is a hotel on site, a botanical nature trail, picnic areas, numerous marked hiking trails, mountain bike trails and a two-star campsite.
On the edge of the pond, the 17 acres campsite, which has been set up for all nature lovers, offers a supervised bathing area for campers and visitors in the summertime.
