On site, you will find the trail under the following name: BALADE AUTOUR DE L’ETANG DE HIRBACH
Immerse yourself in nature!
The 46-hectare Hirbach pond is a haven of peace surrounded by beautiful natural surroundings. Part of the Maginot aquatic line, it is located in the Hilsprich and Holving districts. This historic pond, designed before the Second World War as a natural barrier, now offers an ideal setting for a family walk.
The path around the pond winds through a variety of landscapes: on one side, the tranquil banks of the pond, perfect for a picnic or a family snack, and on the other, shady stretches of woodland, refreshing on a summer's day. The lush green setting is a haven for nature lovers, anglers and families looking for a quiet outing.
Ducks, swans and other aquatic inhabitants glide peacefully over the water, creating a serene and soothing atmosphere. Along the path, on the edge of the forest, stands the majestic Honnert oak, a remarkable tree that reaches a height of around 25 metres. This natural treasure stands majestically, inviting you to contemplate. It is a must-see for all walkers.
If children accompany you, make sure you have a snack on the beach near the finishing point. Whether on foot or by bike, this walk is accessible to all, even the youngest. You are guaranteed a moment of relaxation in this green setting, where water, forest and local flora and fauna come together harmoniously to create a highly enjoyable experience.
If you enjoy walking along the water's edge, other ponds on the Maginot aquatic line also offer great walks: the Marais pond at Rémering-lès-Puttelange, the the Welschhof pond and the Diefenbach pond in Puttelange-aux-Lacs.
- Alternative route: “In the Footsteps of the Porpoises” (Sur les Pas des Marsouins - 13 km), starting from Hilsprich or directly from the Hirbach pond.
- Trail-Marking: yellow rectangle
- Geographical area: Along the ponds of the aquatic Maginot Line
- Starting point: Holving > rue de Lorraine - Pond
