FORT CASSO - PART OF THE MAGINOT LINE à ROHRBACH LES BITCHE

With its 3 surface blocks, 2 of which are combat blocks, this infantry fortress of the Maginot Line was the guardian of the Rohrbach plateau. During the visit, you will discover a real small town buried under 25 metres of limestone with all the equipment necessary for the life of the 176 men of the work.

Practical information

Historic monument or place to visit in ROHRBACH LES BITCHE, on the theme(s) History, Military interest, awarded with the Label Listed historic monument (MH).

During the two-hour visit, you will be guided through the barracks, the ammunition bunkers and the combat block where you will take part in the manoeuvre of a 135-ton turret. You will relive the life of the concrete soldiers, from mobilisation to the events of 1940 and the signing of the armistice. Undaunted, the Fort will stop fighting on the orders of the government. Outside, you can walk along the footpath linking the entrance and battle blocks, and enjoy the calm and beauty of the landscape. Reduced entrance fee on presentation of the Simserhof entrance ticket.
