Historic monument or place to visit in METZ, on the theme(s) Military interest, awarded with the Label Listed historic monument (MH).
It is the most imposing remaining building of the medieval ramparts, both a double gate and a bridge over the Seille.
Built in the 13th century, the Porte des Allemands is a symbol of the medieval past of Metz, Ville d'art et d'histoire. This defensive structure is the only surviving vestige of the city's medieval gates. Since its reopening to the public on June 7, 2014, its imposing, majestic silhouette has been the venue for numerous cultural events.
It owes its name to the Teutonic Knights or Hospitaller Brothers of Notre Dame des Allemands, who founded a hospital nearby in the 13th century.
