Museum in METZ , on the theme(s) Archeology, History, Sacred art, Popular arts & traditions , awarded with the Label Musée de France museum .
The Musée de la Cour d'Or takes its name from the palace of the kings of Austrasia that once stood in Metz. The Gallo-Roman archaeological collection is one of the most important in France, with ancient thermal baths preserved in situ. A maze of rooms and passageways leads from the 15th-century Chèvremont granary to the 13th-century ceilings or to the chancel of St-Pierre-aux-Nonnains, reputed to contain one of Europe's finest collections of Merovingian sculpture (7th century). The Fine Arts gallery features works by the Ecole de Metz (19th century) and artists from Metz and the Moselle region.
