Where Hip-Hop Meets Electro Laura Defretin and Brandon Masele—better known by their stage names “Nala” and “Miele” in the battle scene—founded the company MazelFreten with the goal of blending their respective artistic styles. Drawing on hip-hop for her and electronic music for him, they create a joyful fusion of these two major urban dance movements. For their second ensemble piece, they’ve assembled an international cast of six performers who invite us on a journey through performance, contemplation, and poetry. The group’s strength lies in its unwavering cohesion, set to an electronic soundtrack interspersed with live piano renditions of Chopin’s works. With *Memento*, the choreographers bring to the stage their memories and the emotions that deeply move them through their love for their art. Between collaborations with Stromae, Angèle, and Hervé, and performances around the world thanks to the international fame they gained from their participation in the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, MazelFreten stops in Forbach to kick off Le Carreau’s 30th-anniversary season with infectious energy.
