Three highlights from this unique program: an intriguing piece by our composer-in-residence, Eve Risser; an unjustly overlooked masterpiece; and a very famous violin concerto.
The music of the British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams is little known in France, and yet his Symphony No. 5 is brimming with unforgettable melodies, culminating in a romantic romanza. We can count on the talent of the excellent Australian conductor Jessica Cottis to bring this music, full of hope, to life. Was it because of his engagement to Thérèse Brunswick that Beethoven composed a concerto with such radiant lyricism? With his sensitive bowing and profound humanity, Ilya Gringolts is the ideal violinist to perform this spring-like concerto.
