All aboard for Bolivia! Born in the Andes, conductor Mariana Delgadillo Espinoza takes us on a journey through her country’s fascinating musical history. From the villancicos of the Golden Age (the folk songs that accompanied religious ceremonies) to today’s traditional dances, the Alkymia Ensemble presents, on period instruments, a selection from a sumptuous repertoire characterized by a unique blend of styles. There is great joy and radiance in this music, which blends African rhythms, Baroque harmonies, and Andean melodies—but there is also deep emotion when the songs evoke the plight of Black slaves in the silver mines of Potosí. Driven by an irrepressible energy and set to the rhythm of a participatory dance party, *Viva la Gracia!* is a fabulous journey and a musical ode to life.
