The town of Fameck (Moselle) is hosting the 37th edition of the Arab Film Festival—a major event for Arab cinema in France. This year, Sudan makes its debut with a program highlighting filmmakers who use the medium to preserve collective memory, expose the traumas of civil war, and resist cultural erasure.
Festivalgoers will have the opportunity to discover several Sudanese films. As witnesses to the country’s history—from the colonial era through the ongoing civil war to exile—these films reveal the richness of a culture that has been ignored for far too long.
The festival will also feature some 40 films from across the Arab world, divided among competitions, special screenings, and other events. Juries composed of professionals from the cultural sector will award several prizes, including an Audience Choice Award. Side events (roundtable discussions, workshops, screenings for young audiences, and more) will round out this immersive experience in contemporary Arab cinema.
