In a vast apiary, the very elderly Gust spends his retirement among his bees. He reminisces aloud about a life of work, while Lies, his second wife, is on her deathbed. Reduced to silence, she implicitly bears witness to a life spent “working and keeping her mouth shut.”
Living in this apiary are “two bees,” workers indispensable to the smooth functioning of the great economic and social hive.
