At a time when the concept of the living is reawakening the memory of the connections between nature, spirituality, and feminism, Séraphine Louis, known as de Senlis (1864–1942), emerges as a pioneering figure. Her paintings unfold a teeming universe where leaves, fruits, and flowers seem imbued with an intense presence. On the fringes of the 20th-century avant-garde movements, the artist developed a visual language of remarkable formal freedom, whose expressive power and inventiveness continue to astonish. Bringing together more than 90 works out of the approximately 100 currently cataloged, the exhibition introduces viewers to a body of work that liberates the plant world from reality, elevating it to a subject of vital power, sublimation, and fervor.
